Cherry Creek is a small, walkable-by-design corner of Denver, and “things to do” here mostly means shopping streets, a creekside bike path and a few well-known annual events. According to Wikipedia’s Cherry Creek page, the neighborhood sits near the geographic center of the City and County of Denver and has many newer residences mixed in with some of the city’s older homes.

If you are weighing Cherry Creek as a place to live, my Cherry Creek neighborhood guide covers the bigger picture. And if you would like to see homes near the places below, my free buyer guide is the easiest first step.

Cherry Creek North on Foot

The Wikipedia page describes Cherry Creek North as a 16 city-block area with locally owned businesses and nationally recognized brands, running along East First, Second and Third Avenues from University Boulevard to Steele Street. Fillmore Plaza, on Fillmore Street between First and Second Avenues, hosts events, including Cherry Creek North Food & Wine in summer and the Cherry Creek Arts Festival.

I do not have dates, hours or ticket details for those events, so I will not guess. Check the event organizers before you plan a visit.

The Cherry Creek Shopping Center page says the mall is about three and a half miles southeast of downtown Denver, on East First Avenue on the banks of Cherry Creek. It lists 160-plus stores across two floors and about 1,032,000 square feet, owned and managed by Simon Property Group. Department stores named in the text are Neiman Marcus, Macy’s and Nordstrom, plus an eight-screen AMC theater.

The page also says the first shopping center there was designed in 1949 and completed in 1953, and renovated in 1990. The site was once a sand mine and then a city landfill in the 1940s, which surprised me the first time I read it.

Parks, the Bike Path and the Cherry Creek Sneak

The neighborhood page names Manley and Pulaski Parks, the Cherry Creek bike path and East Seventh Avenue Parkway as part of Denver’s parks network. It also describes the Cherry Creek Sneak, a 5-mile foot race held on neighborhood streets, parks and bike trails on the last Sunday in April, except Easter. I could not pull trail length or surface details from a source, so check the City of Denver before you ride or run. For the reservoir and state park side of the creek, see my post on things to do in Aurora.

Getting In and Out

Per Wikipedia, Speer Boulevard becomes East First Avenue heading in from downtown and LoDo, and University and Colorado Boulevards connect to Interstate 25. RTD bus service also runs through the neighborhood. If a home would put you on a regular commute, my south Denver commute times post shows how to test it before you buy.
